British Property Federation warns against hitting foreign investors with new taxes

Land Registry data shows prices in England and Wales inching up

Image Official Land Registry figures show that house prices in England and Wales increased by 0.1% in May compared with the former month, taking the common house price in England and Wales to £161,969.

The May data from Land Registry’s House Price Index also shows an annual price increase of five% and that repossession volumes decreased by 27% in March 2013 to at least one,448 compared with 1,981 in March 2012.

The region in England and Wales which experienced the best increase in its average property value during the last 365 days is London with a movement of five% and the East Midlands experienced the best monthly rise with a rise of two%.

The region with the best annual price fall was Yorkshire and The Humber with a decrease of two.2% and the East of britain saw the foremost significant monthly price fall with a decrease of 0.7%.

Flagship UK scheme to enhance the building of recent homes criticised

It’s clearly vital that the incentives work and the govt achieves its aim,’ said committee chairman Margaret Hodge.

‘It is therefore disappointing that once greater than two years of the scheme being up and running, no evaluation is in place and no credible data is offered to teach whether the scheme is operating or not. To this point the areas that have gained most financial have a tendency to be the areas where housing need is lowest.
